The C2i certificate is the logical continuation of the B2i certificate. This certificate proves that the holder has mastered certain IT and network tool skills. The certificate has been established in order to achieve the goal of developing, strengthening and validating mastery of information and communication technologies by students at institutions of higher learning. It is expected to be available on two levels:
Level 1:
The "C2i Level 1" (IT and Internet Certificate) for students, published in the Official Bulletin (B.O.) of 30 April 2002 French version ;

requirements applicable to all students and continuous education interns. This first level must be acquired at graduate-degree level at the latest, but is preferably achieved at the beginning of higher-education studies. It will be required for entry into IUFMs (teaching-training colleges) in the long-term.
The objective of C2i Level 1 is to enable students to master the skills that are now indispensable for pursuing higher education programmes and to become capable of developing these skills as the technology itself develops. The certificate also aims to help students master skills that will enable them to enter the professional world upon completion of the programme.
The C2i Level 1 vouches for the student's proficiency in a full range of skills needed for carrying out the activities that higher education programmes now require :
- Researching, creating, using and managing information;
- Gathering and processing data;
- Managing data;
- Saving, archiving and researching data;
- Presenting the results of a project both in class and at distance;
- Exchanging dialogue and communicating at distance;
- Producing work as part of a group;
- Adopting a standpoint with regard to the problems and issues related to the use of ICT: rights and obligations, legal aspects, deontological and ethical concerns, etc.
Level 2:
more advanced requirements, based on the occupational focus of each training programme (pre-vocational and vocational education). This second level must be acquired at master’s-degree (second year) level.

1. C2i Level 2 for teachers published in the Official Bulletin (B.O.) of 11 March 2004 French version aims to validate the professional skills required by all teachers for performing the pedagogical, educational and societal aspects of their job ;

El C2i de nivel 1 es la continuación lógica del B2i. Se publicó en el B.O. de 30 de abril de 2002, y en la actualidad está en fase de prueba. Se desarrolla siguiendo dos procedimientos en treinta y ocho centros de enseñanza superior. Los resultados de esta prueba se esperan para el mes de junio.
El objetivo del C2i de nivel 1 es permitir a los estudiantes llegar a dominar las competencias indispensables para continuar con sus estudios superiores y que sean capaces de hacer evolucionar estas competencias en función de los avances tecnológicos. Por último, tiene como objetivo conseguir que dominen las competencias que les ayudarán a introducirse en el mundo profesional al término de su formación.
http://www2.c2i.education.fr/sections/c2i1/De esta forma, el C2i de nivel 1 certifica el control de un conjunto de competencias necesarias para que el estudiante lleve a cabo las actividades que un curso de formación superior exige en la actualidad:
investigación, creación, manipulación y gestión de la información;
recuperación y tratamiento de datos;
gestión de datos;
conservación, archivado y búsqueda de dichos datos;
presentación presencial y a distancia del resultado de un trabajo;
intercambio y comunicación a distancia;
producción en situación de trabajo en equipo;
posicionamiento ante los problemas y perspectivas de utilización de las TIC: derechos y obligaciones, aspectos jurídicos, deontológicos y éticos...
Las acciones emprendidas se realizan en colaboración con centros de enseñanza superior, escuelas superiores y centros IUFM.

El C2i de nivel 2 para docentes (publicado en el B.O. de 11de marzo de 2004) está destinado a certificar las competencias profesionales comunes y necesarias de todos los docentes para el ejercicio de su profesión en las dimensiones pedagógica, educativa y ciudadana.
